Studies conducted to evaluate the efficacy of novaluron against two stages of egg development viz., freshly laid and prior to hatching, larvae and pupae of diamond back moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella indicated that the novaluron inhibited the hatchability of eggs at both the stages of their development. The freshly laid eggs and those prior to hatching when exposed to 0.01 per cent novaluron exhibited maximum per cent unhatched eggs of 88.00 and 84.00, respectively as against 4.00 per cent in an untreated control. The mean per cent mortality in first, second, third and fourth instar larvae of P. xylostella within the treatments with novaluron was ranged from 60.00 to 100.00, 52.00 to 96.00, 32.00 to 80.00 and 32.00 to 72.00 per cent, respectively.The maximum mean per cent larval mortality in all instars of P. xylostella was found in treatment with 0.01 per cent novaluron. The early instars were more susceptible to novaluron than late instars. The larval mortality was directly proportional to thedose of novaluron tried. The morphological deformities were also noticed in pupae formed after the treatment. The percentage of adults emerged from the pupae exposed to various concentrations ofnovaluron was ranged from 16.00 to 56.00 as against 80.00 per cent in an untreated control.
