Comparative biology of syrphid fly, .Y. scutellare on different crops was carried out in the Department of Entomology, C. P. College of Agriculture, S. D. Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar during 2011-12. The average length and breadth of eggs was varied from 0.70 +- 0.04 to 0.78 +- 0.07 and 0.25 +- 0.02 to 0.30 +- 0.05 mm on different aphid species. The average incubation period was varied from 2.40 +- 0.69 to 2.76 +- 0.50 days, whereas hatching of eggs was 68 to 78 per cent on different aphid species. The average duration of development for first, second and third instars on different host of aphid species ranged from 2.32 +- 0.46 to 2.65 +- 0.50 days, 3.28 +- 0.45 to 3.66 +- 0.50 days and 3.64 +- 0.63 to 4.26 +- 0.78 days, respectively.The average pupal period were recorded with a range of 6.50 +- 0.62 to 6.78 +- 0.70 mm, 2.60 +- 0.31 to 2.80 +- 0.34 mm and 9.46 +- 0.64 to 10.13 +- 0.77 days, respectively when reared on different aphid species. The average length ranged from (8.43 +- 0.57 to 8.79 +- 0.72 mm and 7.92 +- 0.85 to 8.37 +-0.74 mm) and breadth (14.50 +- 1.76 to 14.95 +- 1.66 mm and 14.42 +- 1.76 to 14.64 +- 1.25 mm) of male and female adults. The pre-oviposition, oviposition and post-oviposition periods of syrphid fly ranged from 9.46 +- 0.74 to 10.53 +- 1.40 days, 3.20 +- 0.77 to3.93 +- 0.79 days and 1.66 +- 1.81 to 2.06 +- 1.66 days, respectively when they were fed on different host of aphid species. Fecundity was 20.09 +- 2.76 to 24.47 +- 1.99 eggs. The longevity of male and female was 14.39 +- 1.72 to 16.54 +- 1.40 days and 14.97 +- 1.49 to 16.37 +- 1.28 days, respectively.
