Obituary - Geoffrey Spiller CEng FEI, 1956-2012

Family, colleagues and friends were deeply saddened to learn that Geoffrey Spiller passed away at the beginning of February after a long illness.Geoff was a supportive colleague and a loyal friend. His enthusiasm, encouragement, commitment and technical expertise took him to Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union whilst employed with Atkins Ltd. He started in Hungary. It was certainly an eye-opener to see the inefficient way in which businesses were run under the former Communist regime. His role was to challenge the old order and propose realistic and economically beneficial improvements. He learnt on the job and derived much professional and personal satisfaction knowing that his work really did 'make a difference' in helping these countries make better use of the world's resources by using energy more efficiently.
