In the last six months, the trustees of the Energy Institute (El) have reviewed the organisation's strategy and past performance in considering the right direction for the future. The El, in its various incarnations, has been active now for almost a century, when founding societies in fuel and petroleum technology began to promote the science and practice of fuel and energy, and to celebrate the collective knowledge of the membership for greater good. Since then, the fundamental purpose has remained, but we have adapted our approach to the changing needs of society and resulting changes in the energy industry.
