The simplest way to gauge the current performance of the European independent bulk liquid storage sector - particularly in comparison to other regions-is to look at the latest set of financial results from Royal Vopak, which operates the broadest network of terminals around the globe. Of its 'home' market in the Netherlands, Vopak said that 'challenges remain' and its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) division faced 'challenging business circumstances'. Meanwhile, the Asian division showed 'steady performance' and its Americas unit also offered 'steady performance offset by adverse currency translation'. Occupancy rates varied considerably.
