This article presents a small-scale analysis of the transport phenomena in a region of the formation of an oil well with drilling fluid loss. The mathematical model to study this problem is based on conservation equations in terms of average variables and considers the convection and conduction heat transfer mechanisms in two-dimensional and transient regimes. It is assumed that fluid flows according to Darcy's law. Under drilling fluid loss conditions and short times, the convective mechanism is more important than the conductive, while for longer times, the conductive mechanism governs the heat transfer process throughout the porous media.
