The First International Consensus Conference for Advanced Breast Cancer (ABC 1) took place in Lisbon, Portugal, in November 2011. The 800 participants from 64 countries discussed consensus guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of advanced breast cancer focussing this year on meta-static breast cancer. In the ABC 1-consensus panel many international experts were present including two German members1 representing the German oncology. After the conference, a working group of German breast cancer experts discussed these new ABC guidelines in order to adapt them for clinical routine in Germany. The guidelines were developed in order to facilitate evidence-based treatment decisions for metastatic breast cancer. "The ABC1 Conference is an initiative of the European School of Oncology (ESO) following a 6 year-work from the ESO-MBC Task Force."
