A method for the mathematical interpretation of results of analysis of multicomponent mixtures for confirmation of identity is described. Multicomponent samples of medicines and narcotics were used as example model systems. Studies of multicomponent systems which are difficult to differentiate using standard spectral techniques have become possible with the introduction of multidimensional set analyses from the early 1990s, due to advances in computer technologies and the development and real-time analysis of libraries of reference images using 10n databases, where n > 9. It also became possible to identify the nature of aqueous solutions using n-dimensional descriptor sets using 2D scattering kinetics [1]. In world practice, the concept of n-dimensional descriptor sets is used for the analysis of two-dimensional mass spectrometry and chromatogram mass spec-trometry data using the MALDI-TOF and LC-ESI-MS methods [2,3]. The methodology proposed here is closely associated with studies by our group on the analysis of multi-component mixtures using methods based on topology and mathematical descriptors [4].
