USDA's revived biotech advisory panel to take on 'coexistence' issue

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on June 24 announced appointments to the reactivated Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture (AC21), which he has asked to take on the controversial "coexistence" issue as its first assignment. The 22-member panel is a mix, accounting for 16 states and multiple perspectives, including representatives from the biotechnology industry, organic food industry, seed industry, farming communities, food manufacturers, state governments, consumer and community development groups, the medical profession and academic researchers.
