Sometimes, the good old days are best left in the past. At least that's one thing Mark Cortez has learned in nearly four decades as a Pest Management Professsional. Cortez: In 1973, the first company 1 worked for had a pig ranch for an account. They would feed the hogs in the trough with a cement truck, and the place was infested with rats. The rodent situation was unreal. Back in the day when you could buy anything through your rep, our boss bought cyanide gas. We would put cyanide dust into the boroughs through a hose. We would wait for the rats to come out half-drunk, and we would hit them with baseball bats. We had to wear high boots, because everywhere we stepped, we would cave-in a borough and rats came running out.
