The western libya gas pipeline project is a reality at last.the gas-export scheme,which will eventually carry 8bn cubic metres a year (cm/y) of libyan gas under the mediterranean sea to italy,was officially inaugurated on 7 october.the ceremony,at the gas processing plant at Mellitah,on the Libyan coast,was attended by the country's leader,Muammar Qadhafi,and the Italian prime minister,Silvio Berlusconi.
