Colombia gas field closure flags looming shortfall

Chevron has closed a mature natural gas field on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, highlighting a looming domestic gas supply deficit that will probably be filled by LNG imports by 2018. The onshore Riohacha gas field, in Guajira province, “was closed at the request of the operator, given the strong increase in water production”, national hydrocarbons agency ANH says (WPA, 28 August, p11).
