Israel weighs domestic, export gas plans

The development strategy for Israel's massive natural gas wealth is expected to be top of the agenda for the new Israeli government, as positive news from the offshore Tamar and Leviathan fields pro- vides further support for export proposals. A new cabinet, expected to be formed early next week, is likely to adopt the recommendations made last year by a special committee to export up to 500bn m3 of natural gas, while reserving at least 450bn m3 for domestic use (WPA, 7 Sep- tember, p7).
