Gas drive helps upstream oil developments

Growing regional gas demand is supporting sub-Saharan Africa’s upstream oil and condensate developments. Regional governments have encouraged international firms to step up exploration for gas to meet increased domestic demand for power generation and industrial and petrochemical sector use. The search for non-associated gas has resulted in commercial oil and gas discoveries, especially in west Africa by firms including Italy’s Eni and independents London-listed Bowleven and Victoria Oil and Gas.
