China’s Chongqing pushes shale gas

China’s southwest Chongqing municipality wants to boost its shale gas production with more investment from state-controlled oil firms. It has signed agreements with PetroChina and Sinopec that envisage more spending. The latter is Chongqing’s largest shale gas producer, having invested almost 20bn yuan ($3bn) by the end of last year, or almost the entire related spend in the municipality.
