Buhari boosts NN PC scrutiny

Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari has moved to make state-owned oil company NNPC more accountable, appointing a new board to increase oversight, including members of his own staff. NNPC has suffered from corruption and a lack of transparency in recent years. Buhari has replaced the group’s managing director, oil minister Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, with executive director for exploration and production Maikanti Kacalla Baru, ending the former’s potential conflict of interest. Kachikwu has ushered in a series of reforms at NNPC since his appointment in August last year, in an attempt to make the company more commercial and profitable.
