European Environment and Health Process and itsimpact on the Environmental Health Policy in Croatia

Raising awareness of the importance of environment for human health re-sulted in several initiatives such as European Environment and Health Pro-cess and Environment for Europe Process. However, they should not be con-fused with the environmental health acqui s requirements deriving from alarge number of EU Directives or Council Regulations in which importantaspects of protection of environment and human health are incorporated. In2003 the European Commission adopted the European Environment andHealth Strategy, which soon was followed by EU European Environmentand Health Action Plan 2004-2010 as an additional complementary systemto the existing EU Directives. On the other hand, National EnvironmentalHealth Action Plans were developed on the basis of the Environment andHealth Action Plan for Europe within the European Environment andHealth Process, as a tool to assist individual country in evaluating and im-proving the environmental health management system, but with no legalbinding at all.
