Increase R&D spending in chemical industry: Pranab

PRESIDENT Pranab Mukherjee, speaking at the inauguration of 66th Annual Indian Chemical Engineering Congress at the Institute of Chemical Technology recently in Mumbai, called for the Research and Development expenditure of the chemical industry to be scaled-up from the current spend of 0.5% to the global benchmark of 4% of its revenues. President Pranab Mukherjee also stressed the need for increasing expenditure on and development in the chemical industry sector, which "has deep linkages' with the rest of the economy.
