Paperlinx, the massive Australian paper merchant group, has experienced severe financial problems in the last few months, which had huge repercussions for a number of markets, and mills. In early April, the Paperlinx UK paper and visual technology solutions business operations closed, and around 700 people were made redundant with immediate effect - this affected Robert Home Group, Howard Smith Paper Group, The Paper Company, and Paperlinx Services (Europe), but not the packaging operation. Initially Paperlinx Ireland, which trades in Northern Ireland and the Republic, and the Paperlinx operations in mainland Europe, Asia and Australasia were stated to be unaffected.
