This study aimed to assess recent trends of syphilis cases in pregnant women and neonates in Switzerland. During the study period from 2000 to 2009, positive syphilis serology was found in 9 pregnant women out of 13,83 3 women who gave birth at our institution (figure). One neonate experienced symptomatic congenital syphilis (CS). Within the Swiss population from 2006 to 2009, infectious syphilis cases in women of childbearing age increased substantially. Since 2006, syphilis is clearly reemerging in Switzerland and the incidence is amongst the highest in Western Europe. In other populations (e.g., USA and China), an increase of the syphilis incidence has been followed by similar changes in the CS incidence.
