Sad demise of Dr. Doraiswamy, former CSIR-NCL Director

Lakshamangudi Krishnamurthy Doraiswamy was born in Bangalore to L.S. and Kamala Krishnamurthy on May 13,1927. LKD did his schooling from the Methodist Boys High School, Hyderabad and obtained B. Sc. (1946) in chemistry from the Nizam College in Hyderabad then affiliated to University of Madras, Chennai. He went to University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA in December 1948 on a scholarship to pursue chemical engineering. He obtained M.S. (1950) and Ph.D. (1952) under Prof. Olaf A. Hougen. He had a short stint (1952-53) as chemical engineer at R.L. Carlisle Chemical and Manufacturing Co. Brooklyn, New York where he worked on emulsion paints. LKD joined National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune in October 1954 as a senior scientific officer and rose through the positions of Assistant Director (1961-66, Division of Organic Intermediates and Dyes), Deputy Director (1966-78, Division of Chemical Engineering and Process Development), and Director (1978-89). LKD had served as the first non-chemist director at CSIR-NCL.
