Barely Tapped Global Potential

Although the emergence of the biorefinery may be regarded as a relatively new development, as far back as the 1980s two Canadian university students came up with a concept to take cellulosic biomass and turn it into a liquid biocrude via Rapid Thermal Processing (RTP). The two, Robert Graham (now chairman) and Barry Freel (chief technology officer) formed Ensyn. From its recently-expanded and enhanced base in Renfrew, ON (in a former Beloit facility), Ensyn has an established global presence with investors and partners including diverse and well-known international names such as Fibria Celulose, Arbec Forest Products, Honeywell UOP, Credit Suisse and Chevron Technology Ventures.
