Conserve energy in petroleum refineries and Petrochemical complexes

PETROLEUM refineries and petrochemical complexes normally comprised of multiple process units. These are established bulk consumers of energy in form of fuel, steam and power. With escalating cost of energy, process units are becoming bigger, more energy efficient with the sole objective of reducing the cost of production. In competitive market, any improvement in thermal efficiency can make a large difference in profitability. Further, any form of energy generation ultimately led to release of green house gases (CO2, NOx, CH4 etc.) in the atmosphere in form of flue gas or exhaust. As industrial growth will continue, particularly in developing countries, more and more green house gases will get into the atmosphere leading to ill effect in the environment. Fortunately, it was realized lately that excessive release of green house gases are responsible for ever increasing global warming that has become matter of concern.
