Management of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne javanica) on banana plantation in Sindh, Pakistan.

摘要

A survey of different areas of Sindh, Pakistan was carried out to determine the nematodes associated with soil and roots of banana plantation. The root-knot nematode viz., M. javanica and M. incognita were encountered along with other nematodes in banana plantation. The effect of organic amendment, biological control and chemical was observed on banana variety (FHIA-23) against M. javanica: neem, datura (Datura fastuosa var. alba), marigold (Tagetes erecta), chitin and Sargassum sp.; and microbial antagonist Paecilomyces variotii, carbofuran and organic fertilizer. Results indicated that highest plant length was found where chitin was used. Reduction in the number of root-knot galls/10 g root was observed in all treatments compared to the control. Among the organic, chemical and biological control amendments, neem was found to reduce the root-knot nematode and increase the plant growth parameters compared to the control.
