摘要

In our March issue, Alaska fisherman Oystein Lone wrote about his concerns with the current king crab rationalization system. (See it at www.pacificfishing.com, under "Resources.") Steve Minor, executive director of the North Pacific Crab Association, disagrees with some of Lone's comments. Here's what Minor has to say: Hey, does anyone else remember that until the new crab program was implemented in late 2005, the Alaska crab industry lost on average five fishermen a year under the derby style fishery, and that the opilio crash of 1999-2000 pushed many vessels to the verge of bankruptcy?
