Prawns: British Columbia's shrimp-by-trap (prawn) fishery closed July 14 after opening May 7. "It's fair to say, by all reports, thatit has been quite a good season," she said. "We conduct samplings, and there were high abundances of prawns in a number of areas. Some areas were better than in recent years." Landings in 2007 were at a record high of 6.1 million pounds but dropped to 5.2 million pounds in 2008.
