Katherine Hammack: The army views sustainability as really sustaining the mission. And the mission of the army is to serve and protect the citizens of our great nation. So when we sustain the mission, a lot of that sustainment is dependent upon reliable access to energy and water. We have said many a time that without energy the army stands still and silent. We cannot communicate and we cannot move. That is why we are aggressively pursuing power and energy advancements and water conservation in an effort to enhance our mission effectiveness and maintain operational readiness at all times.
