Focus on Safe Lead-Paint Practices

The pending EPA Renovation, Repair & Painting (RRP) Rule has put more attention on the issue of lead-safe work practices. Under the rule, contractors who perform renovation, repair and/or painting that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child-care facilities and schools built before 1978 must be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Originally scheduled to go into effect on April 22, the rule has been pushed back to Oct. 1 to give contractors more time to become trained and compliant.
