In 1984, Vince Fera was a 15-year-old kid working at a Toronto cafe when one of his regulars stopped in for coffee and struck | up a conversation. The man said I he was opening a paint store and needed part-time help. Would the kid come work for him? Fera didn't think much of the idea at first. The man told him the store would be in die North York neighborhood, not within walking distance. "I don't have a driver's license," fhe kid said. "Can you take the bus after school?" fhe man asked. The local polytechnic school, Humber College, and its accounting program awaited Fera after high school, but Humber charged for tuition. Fera saw a chance for more hours and money than the cafe could provide him, so he agreed to take the new job.
