摘要

The present research article describes the chemoenzymatic synthesis of alkyd resins based on modified castor oil. The processes involved in the synthesis are: 1. Lipase catalysed interesterification of castor oil and linseed oil at near ambinent temperature to form an interesterification product; 2.Esterfification with phthalic anhydride. The article also describes the comparison of coating properties of the newly synthesised alkyd resins with those prepared by the conventional method. The various coating properties determined were hardness, adhesion, impact resistance, storage stability, chemical resistance and colour. Overall, chemoenzymatically synthesised alkyd resins showed better coating properties than the commercially available alkyd resins.
