Science-much like democratic society-can advance only when the freedom of speech,the possibility of discussion,the exchange of opinions,and respect for new ideas and different arguments are properly ensured.It is in this context that the community of scientists assembled together in the Polish Academy of Sciences perceives the Academy's overarching role and social mission.
