The Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Fundamental Technological Research /IFTR/ conducts fundamental research and its implementation in many fields such as: (1) mathematical and physical foundations of the theory of continuous media, (2) mechanics of materials in elastic and inelastic ranges of behavior taking into account plasticity effects, degradation and fracture/metals, soils, rocks, concretes, polymers, and composites, (3) mechanics of machine and civil engineering structures in both linear and nonlinear domains, (4) generation, propagation and properties of acoustic, ultrasonic and electromagnetic waves, (5) ultrasonic medical diagnostics, (6) structure and synthesis of Polish speech, (7) atomic frequency standards, (8) nondestructive testing of materials and structures.
