Technical requirements and inspection of castings from spheroidal graphite cast iron

25,105 tons of castings from spheroidal graphite cast iron were made in 1999 in the Czech Republic, in 2000 the manufacture increased to 32,662 tons of castings what represents the interannual increase by 30.5 percent. In spite of it this manufacture in comparison with other countries remains low one and it cannot be compared with advanced but even with developing countries where the manufacture of spheroidal graphite cast iron is 2 times up to 7 times higher than the manufacture of steel castings. A contrary-wise situation is in the Czech Republic where the manufacture of steel castings is traditionally high and in 2000 it represented 75,629 tons. In spite of it it is pleasant that castings from spheroidal graphite cast iron are essentially the sole material with a stable growth. Demands on castings from spheroidal graphite cast iron as they occur in corresponding standards and technical requirements were evaluated in the contribution. Those demands are very various and sometimes unrealizable for a foundry. With great difficulties are kept the values found out on separately cast test specimens with simultaneous prescription of structure and mainly prescribed values of casting hardness that does not correspond to the determined material and without respect to the tested place from the point of view of wall thickness. Therefore it is necessary already in demand proceedings to pay high attention to inspection methods of castings and to required certificates.
