Special SG Roll for Roughing Stand of Long Product Mills

Special Spheroidal Graphitic (SG) Cast Iron roll was developed to meet the stringent mill requirement especially the service condition of Roughing Stand (RS). The pre requisite of the roll material calls for combination of high toughness to sustain load, and less susceptible to generation of Fire-Cracks, leading to better surface finish for the products namely Angle, Beam, Channel, Wire Rod etc. The properties were achieved by design of suitable chemistry followed by high temperature hardening & tempering heat treatment equivalent to Adamite (steel grade) rolls.. This kind of roll have high tensile strength and adequate bending strength and suitable for Roughing Stand . This Special SG roll is now replacing the Adamite roll from the roughing stand because of improved performance and higher campaign length to the tune of ~1.5 times.
