Grillo brings raw materials for dimethyl sulphate production in-house

Grillo-Werke AG has completed a new state of the art dimethyl ether (DME) production plant in the southern part of Industriepark Hochst in Frankfurt-am-Main, based on a license which Grillo acquired from a Japanese business partner. The new plant has a capacity of 20,000 t/a and will start production in summer 2012. The DME will be used, along with sulphur trioxide (S03) for the production of dimethyl sulphate (DMS) at Grillo's plant in Frankfurt. On April 1, 2007 Grillo took over Clariant's DMS business with its 20 employees and their technical know-how, and the company how aims to strengthen its position in the European dimethyl sulphate market as a result of the new backward integration - i.e. the in-house production of raw material which previously had to be purchased from third parties. DME is also used as a propellant for aerosols in the cosmetic and paint industry, as well as for polyurethane foams.
