摘要

J.H. Stepp Farm off Pace Road in Hen-dersonville, N.C., is recognized as a longtime pick-your-own apple orchard operation in Henderson County. Earlier this year, a regular customer told J.H.'s daughter, Sonya Stepp Hollingsworth, that he remembers coming to the farm when he was 8 years old, back in 1969. He saw Sonya's mother, Yvonne, and J.H.'s mother-in-law, Mama Mann, selling apples out of the car from the existing orchard. In fact, J.H. Stepp purchased the farm in 1967. He later built a small fruit shed so his wife and mother-in-law wouldn't have to market apples out of the car. Eventually, he decided it was best to offer the public apples that they picked themselves.
