There are two sort of gardener. Those who want to make a living off their cultivation and content themselves with aligning perpendicular boards down a central alley to access their bean rows ... and those who attempt to marry their production to a more decorative vision along the lines of gardens from Villandry to Chaumont sur Loire. Many amateurs have tried to inscribe this more ludic dimension on their own land in order to enhance it with some aesthetic adventure. It's understandable that the landscaper who has worked for decades on the land and whose potential garden has more extended geographical limits is tempted by a similar proceeding yet at another scale. The production of design in the fields is the concern of the peasant. Transmit, a word. The fact of getting it down in writing on paper makes H passive and flat. By contrast, tracing it in a field that is not a piece of drawing paper to be judged through a magnifying glass makes it alive, unusual, time- (and weather-) dependent. To inscribe it additionally in nature gives it a universal value. Seen from the sky, it's an opening, nobody can see it and yet everybody can see it. The subject isn't enclosed in an art gallery, or in a museum, or in a book ... it's freed (an evasion).
