Over more than 35 years you have been a feature of many of the big landscape projects in France and also in Europe. Haw do you explain that long term and impressive productivity? Doubtless 'quantity' ran impress sonic people! But it happens that itwas accompanied by a 'recognized quality' in 'very professional work' (e.g.. Grand Prix National du Paysage, 1994). If I were vain, I'd answer |that| it was by my talent. But that's not the case with me, and 1 think that throughout my projects I've always explained myself frankly and simply in whatever way the requirements and demands of a project needed. In fact, I am a modest person from peasant background, and have never pretended to theorize. I've always worked as a practitioner, refusing to lose myself for too long in the complex alchemy of a project. I've always distanced myself -- held myself apart -- from the French groups that for 25 years have certainly participated in the renewal of the art of gardens in France, but too often to the real detriment of what the profession of landscaper would have to be in 2002. Intellectual approaches along those lines have not always yielded high-end results in their writing.
