L'ermitage, a five-star guest village set within the secure grounds of the Fransche Hoek Estate in the Western Cape winelands, recently won the Best Development in Africa award at the International Residential Property Awards held in London.Property developer Dawie du Preez conceptualised the project. With 32 villas, a manor house,a wellness centre and a conference centre, the complex also incorporates a number of 'green' features. For example, four three-kilowatt wind turbines and solar panels with a 6.3kw capacity charge a huge battery pack to store surplus power that is not immediately used by the dual circuit power system. Water for irrigation is sourced from a mountain stream and stored in amanmade lake and there is also a strong emphasis on waste recycling.
