Safety on site starts with the basics

Access equipment, such as the widely used stepladder, must be used carefully and kept in good working order to ensure safety on building sites. In its new site safety handbook, Applying Safe Work Practise in the Building Environment, the Gauteng Master Builders Association (GMBA) warns that the vast majority of serious construction-related injuries are caused by falls from heights which are frequently the result of using unsafe access equipment or unsafe access methods. Stepladders, often taken for granted on building sites, can hold hidden dangers.
