Continuous rolling has been widely adopted in recent years and is a promising and economical stage in seamless-pipe production. One benefit of pipe-rolling systems with a continuous mill is high productivity. The presence of reduction-extension mills (for continuous mandrel-free rolling) considerably expands the range of pipe that may be rolled, in terms of both diameter and wall thickness [1]. In modern systems, rough pipe of a single diameter is usually produced on the continuous mill, and then the required diameter and wall thickness are obtained by reduction with extension. In compiling the rolling table, it is necessary to determine, on the basis of the specified range of pipe, reduction conditions that are consistent with the capabilities of the mills but that minimize the frequency of roller replacement and the ranges of blanks and long mandrels that are required.
