A continuous walking-beam furnace has started commercial operations at OAO Novokuznetskii Metal-lurgicheskii Kombinat. A heating technology has been developed that is intended for rolling continuously cast blank parts of rail steel microalloyed with vanadium. Owing to implementation of the rational heating regimes, the metal losses have been reduced to 0.6 percent, the depth of a visible decarbonized layer to 0.77-2.00 mm, and the dimensions of steel grains to a score of 3-2. The cases when tears appeared during the rolling operation owing to overheating and burning of the corners of blank parts have been eliminated.
