摘要

The arguments for standardization are well rehearsed. At least they are among those of us who work in standards developing organizations. But as anyone in business will ask you, where's the evidence? For years standards makers have been repeating the same few mantras about enabling interoperability and knowledge sharing, about improving safety and customer confidence, and about reducing barriers to trade. These are sound, important messages which over the past decades have encouraged both those that make standards and those that use them to get involved and rally to the cause. But as the German National Standards Body, DIN, showed when it did its research into the value of standards to the German economy in 2000, the arguments are so much stronger when you can demonstrate the tangible benefits to the bottom line.
