摘要

Graphite is used for various aspects in powder metallurgy. It can be employed as an alloying element to increase the strength of sintered parts. It can also be used as a second phase material in metal bonded particulate composites. Composite materials are heterogeneous mixtures of two or more homogeneous phases which have been bonded together. In composites, properties can be attained which could not have been obtained separately. Composites can either be classified according to morphology of reinforcements (fibre, particulate and laminate composites) or to matrix materials (metal, ceramic, polymer matrix). Another important feature of graphite is the application for lubrication and friction moderation in bearings. For each of the mentioned applications, a different tailor-made graphite is necessary to comply with the demands of the specific process.
