DGFT order on inspection certificates upsets fabric industry

The recent notification by the Direct General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) making inspection certificates mandatory for import of fabrics has created a flutter the garment industry. Speaking to The Financial Express, Ms. Reshma Rao general secretary of the Apparel an Handloom Exporters Association (AHEA said the decision would put unnecessary hardship besides adding cost of the final product.Under the notice, the DGFT has made mandatory for importers of fabric to submit a pre-shipment laboratory test report from any recognised agency in the country of origin. The report should certify that no hazardous dyes and chemical are used and the fabric is 'azo free'.
