摘要

An alternative method for testing tensile strength of ceramic fibers at high temperatures has been developed, whereby the entire sample is in the hot zone of the furnace. This eliminates any effect that a thermal gradient might have on the mechanical properties of the fiber. The method proposed here was calibrated with Nextel 720 fibers. Tensile strengths comparable to those published by 3M were obtained.
