MTD Editor Bob Ulrich's recent blog on www.modern-tiredealer.com dealt with something he read in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution titled "Millions of recalled tires are still on our roads." It was an advertisement for an upcoming Channel 2 Action News report on WSB-TV out of Atlanta, Ga. The short segment centered around the most recent tire recalls. The TV station reported that only a small number of tires were actually taken off the highways, leaving millions of recalled tires unrecpvered. Ulrich did some digging, and found that is not true (see "True or false: There are millions of'recalled' tires on the road.") He noted, "Add the viable - not exaggerated - statistics and common sense together and there is no way millions of recalled tires are still on the road." He added, "Certainly there are recalled tires that are still in the market, but that number is very low because the manufacturers go to extremes to have them taken out of service."
