For more than 40 years, there's been one workers' comp insurance name on everyone's lips in North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina and Tennessee: Forestry Mutual Insurance Co. Headquartered in Raleigh, NC, FMIC specializes in workers' comp insurancefor the wood products industry, while offering top rated safety training to its clients. Additionally, FMIC has formed several alliances with Southern logging associations, like the Virginia Loggers Assn. (VLA), North Carolina Assn. of Professional Loggers (NCAPL), South Carolina Timber Producers Assn. (SCTPA), Tennessee Forestry Assn. (TFA) and the North Carolina Forestry Assn. (NCFA). FMIC pays membership dues for its clients for each association except SCTPA. In turn, the various associations promote FMIC as the preferred provider of workers' comp. These alliances are what FMIC President Keith Biggs calls, "the backbone of the company."
