The Remington Arms Co. is the oldest continuously operating U.S. manufacturer, and the oldest one that still makes its original product: firearms. Although it was founded in Ilion, NY in 1816 as E. Remington and Sons, a maker of flintlock rifles, Remington's manufacturing output has been nothing if not diverse. Over the years it has made everything from ammunition to typewriters, and for a brief period it was even a chain saw manufacturer— and an important one, at that.
