摘要

We would like to thank Dr. Emily Jane Woo for her thoughtful comments regarding our recent publication. In general, we agree with the criticisms noted in her letter. First, the cases composing the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) database reflect the practice of its members. Thus, a significant proportion of cases are for the treatment of scoliosis. This may indeed impact the absolute frequency and types of complications noted. However, even in the complex cases composing this sample, the incidence of overall complications, wound infections, and epidural hematomas/seromas for posterior cervical and thoracolumbar cases was not significantly different on the basis of whether bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) was used.
